Phantom Liberty is a disappointment to finish of a generally under performing game. The CP2077 setting is cool and the game looks nice but the DLC is inconsequential and doesn't fix any of the underlying problems with the main game. I found an armored truck that was chased by Wraiths, i followed them wiped out all parties and found that there was nothing to loot from the truck. This is the persistent problem with the whole game and it's world, there are no dynamic events or game play moments that are anything more than set dressing, and once you try and interact with anything outside the main story you will be disappointed.
If you pay full price for this game you will probably feel tricked since it's not a AAA experience. But if you picked it up on sale you will find a fun sanbox game with a cool city and some unique mechanics. The game doesn't have any staying power but if you run the nomad lifepath and nomad ending you will find a satisfactory fun story in a city just deep enough to keep you entertained for the duration of the story,
So for my first run i built a lot of specialized characters without any combat skills, and the game is almost unplayable. Now, one could argue that this is a combat game and that you should know that every character needs to be balanced for combat. However, if combat is a necessary skill, why even make it a stat you can nerf? I would much rather have something like X-Com where all your soldiers are capable of combat but you can specialize them. Some might enjoy the "authentic" role-play aspect that you can build unusable characters that makes the games combat heavy style nearly impossible, but it takes me forever to get through combat because i have about a 6% hit chance with my basic melee and i fight every encounter about 10 times until i get a few lucky crits in. Maybe I will go to the nexus and see if there are any good mods to balance out combat, but if the game doesn't have any mods I'll most likely uninstall it and never touch it again.
I have a love/hate relationship with rouglike games, i loved enter the gungeon but have not liked almost any other game in this category. However this game is amazing, the gameplay is ok, it's not quite as good as Diablo 2 when it comes to the dungeon crawling but the story is engaging and will probaby keep me playing untill i have finished this game.
