I first played this great stuff at my age of 12 and I was very amazed. Why? Because I had never seen a driving/car game before. I tried several old-school softwares concerned with racing, however, they were very boring to me. But Carmageddon meant revolution, at least for me. This was the first 3D racing game in which you shouldn't have had to go circuits and keep the rules of driving competitions. Furthermore, you could kill whoever you want - with your vehicle. Although I'm not a psychopath, I really enjoyed to crash innocent football players or streetwalkers. On the other hand, I understood the main goal of Carmageddon: you have to make as many car as possible get wrecked and win the 'race' by destroying everyone and don't let the wreck you totally. It was very revolting experience after Need for Speed where you could not even crash your car if you collapsed into anything. And the former driving 'simulators' or arcade racing stuffs were so linear. In spite of these earlier car games Carmagedden gave you huge freedom and lots of fun. However there have been several products which wanted to beat and copy Carmageddon (like Crashday) but I think it and its second sequel Carpocalpyse Now are still the king of 'freelancer' arcade car games. If you haven't tried it then, it is time now! And of course thanks to GOG that it has released Carma at last!
