I honestly don't understand what everyone sees in this game. I played this game the day after it was originally released. I wasn't impressed with it then and I'm not impressed with it now. Aside from the clever humor in the game it's actually pretty dull, right down the to art style. Everything in the game is butt ugly and a horrible mix of brown and/or black. The mechanics and basic gameplay are varied and interesting at first. But after a few levels, I just couldn't even force myself to play this anymore. I can only imagine that, the people who are praising this, are only enjoying it for it's ugly, yet unique, visual esthetic and sense of humor. That being said, I can't recall a time when the humor or visual esthetic of a game made it more fun to play and this one is no different.
I have no idea why everyone is giving this game so many bad reviews. Especially when this site is full of utter garbage that seems to get nothing but 4 and 5 star reviews. I loved this game a LOT. I agree that the interface is over complicated but it didn't stop me from playing. Me and my best friend have played this for hours on end over the internet time and time again. It's a real shame that all the screen shots are of tabs and summary windows. The game has some really nice graphics and the alien species are really imaginative. I especially like playing the aquatic race. If you love games like Civilization and enjoy a rich, sci fi setting, then you should give this a try. It's certainly worth the money :)
This was back before EA became slaves to their own money and Bullfrog was still around being all awesome. This is just one of those games that can't be put into a genre at all. Unfortunately, this was also before the age of built in tutorial mechanics and in game guides so it's not always clear what you're supposed to do or how to do it. The game has not aged well at all. The visual look horrendous and, honestly, I recall thinking the exact, same thing when it first came out. Still, it's just stupid fun and it's something you need to try at least once, if you haven't already. They just don't make games like this anymore.
Fans of the Dungeon Keeper games have been harping for a third installment since the second game roller out. I keep telling them that it has already been made and that it is AWESOME. While this game has a lot of differences and it's not actually a sequel but it's basically Dungeon Keeper in a James Bond setting with modern graphics. EVERYTHING is good about this game! It has a brilliant artistic theme that stays the same down to the smallest detail. The music is breath taking. The only reason I didn't give this game a perfect 5 is because of the glitches. They don't come around too often but they can be really bad. Minions will sometimes just get stuck in corners often leading path blocking or, worse, rooms that can't finish being built. More than a few times I've had tourists come to my island and just immediately start running around freaked out for just no reason which starts a chain reaction of other tourists getting scared. This probably sounds really bad if you haven't played it, but it's little more than annoying, really. The game is pretty solid otherwise. It's an instant classic that I recommend to everyone. Even if you don't like this type of game.
In my opinion, this game fails at almost everything. My system is WAY past the requirements yet it's constantly sluggish. Even after turning most or all the settings down. The combat feels really weird, to say the least and using items it just stupidly complicated. I admit that the story had me interested enough to play through the bad gameplay but the characters IN the story were almost one dimensional. I didn't finish it but I can't recall a time when any character in the story moved away from being either a gritty good-guy or being pointlessly evil. Also, how exactly is this a "Good Old Game". It's pretty much still a new release.
This is one of my favorite games of ALL times. I see a lot of people complaining that it doesn't work in Windows 7 but that's the ONLY reason I'm using Windows 7. Microsoft straight up removed some of my favorite features from Windows XP with Win7 but I can't play any old games in Windows XP at all. With Windows 7, all you have to do is make a shortcut and use the Windows XP compatibility mode. Which seems really weird to me. For me it crashes on startup every time when I run in in WinXP. But if I run it in Win7 with WinXP compatibility, it runs great.
