Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition

Absolutely Fantastic

I never had a chance to pick this title up originally, so I was happy to be able to do so through GOG. Other reviewers have done a great job of detailing the game play and singing it's praises, so I don't need to go over them again. Suffice to say, it is a blast! One issue I had: The Dos Box version did not work on my Vista 64 bit machine. Solution: I downloaded and installed Eduke32 available at a site of the same name. With a few setting tweaks in the game it now runs flawlessly. The high definition pack available for the game works with Eduke32. This vastly improves the graphics. The two together provide a fairly modern feel for this older game while making it work well. Since both are free there is no extra cost for these improvements. In addition to all that the game is still well supported by competent fans with additional mods, ranging for optional graphical and game play enhancements to full scale revisions that provide new play experiences. This game, when combined with Eduke32 and the high res pack acts as an epitome of preserving the essence of a good old game while bringing it firmly into the present and making it perfectly accessible with modern hardware. If you like first person shooters, at all, you simply can't go wrong with this game for $5.99.
