Grim Fandango Remastered

once a train wreck always a train wreck

(This is from my experience as a first time player circa 1998 and frankly this remake hasn't done anything to help its glaring problems) Grim Fandango was never a good game, although it looks great, sounds, has a great sense of style and a lot of character, you will NEVER OUT FIGURE THE PUZZLES! without a strategy guide to hand, I would even go as far to say they are obnoxious, you just have to hope you click on the right object with the right item at the right time. You obtain items you wont need and will forget about until a couple of hours into it and there is not sense of rhythm to anything you do. Its like Metal Gear Solid 2 (loose reference there), where the first part of the game has the most love put into it then it swoops down hill in quality, as soon as you get out of the first mission area the game fall apart. Expected a climatic ending? NO!, you get a number 9 ticket slapped in your hand so fast you can almost hear Tim Schafer himself saying "There's not funding left, QUICK end the game now!" This game is far to over praised for its own good and would probably work better as a mini series as it has great characters and paints an intriguing picture. You might as well play minesweeper whilst pausing it once in a while to watch your favorite film. No thanks!

Z: The Game

Instant Purchase

The mid to late 90's truly was the video game renaissance. Although for me its 3 parts nostalgia, this game still holds up as a quirky yet challenging RTS and remains a gleaming gem from a time when not all games were made from bar charts for shareholders but rather a colorful montage of intrigue and endless possibilities.

Daikatana

Better than most crap around today

Say what you like about Daikatana, ( and people do). But its a colorful, over the top, cheesey, flawed shooter where I can carry more than 2 weapons an a few grenades and on that basis alone its better than most crap around today, 5 stars

Deathtrap Dungeon

Flawed Fun

Say what you like about Deathtrap Dungeon, but in my book its fun yet clunky ride that retains the sort of atmosphere scarcely found in games of recent. It holds a lot of good memories for myself and anyone that played it all those years ago its worth picking up again, although newcomers might not find it too accessible its definitely worth a few quid

Catacombs Pack

All my EGA monitor could handle!!

I remember blazing through Catacombs Abyss on my old computer move than 16 years ago! It was the one game that my pc at the time could run! and coming from a yellow/black monochrome screen to EGA it really blew my balls off. Cracking game, full of thrills recommended for the nostalgia trip although new players may be hard pressed to get through the first few levels. five stars!
