Nox™

Isometric hack'n'slash goodness

Whether it's 2000 or 2025, most people pick up Nox while looking for a solid Diablo clone. The bad news is that it has very little in comon with Diablo. The good news is that you're gonna love it anyway. Here's why: - Each character class have their own campaign with their own ending - The design is TIGHT - Beautiful art - Responsive controls - Neat physics - Music by Frank Klepacki In fact, if you're following the game industry, go to mobygames right now and check the credits! Almost every single one of these people is regarded as an industry legend nowadays! Is it better than Diablo? No, it's different. How so? - The loot/equipment system is very basic. It's like they wanted to make a "numbers ARPG", but couldn't put the "numbers" in before the release deadline. - All map layouts and item drops are pre-determined. So it has nothing to do with Diablo and its roguelike ancestors. - No decision-making involved in level-ups. So calling it an "RPG" is a bit of a stretch. In other words, it's more of a Zelda game than a Diablo one. But even if you're looking for a "Diablo-clone", don't let that dissuade you. Nox is well-worthy of your leisure time!

Moto Racer

Simple and fun

What more can I say? You have a road, and you have a bike. 3-4 hours of fun and then you can move on with your life. We need more games like Moto Racer. And no, that's not nostalgia speaking, cause I haven't played it back in the day.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War

My new favorite 40K game

4X apparently stands for eXterminate, eXterminate, eXterminate, eXterminate.

Heroes of Might and Magic®

Dated, but charming

On paper, HoMM1 should be rendered obsolete by later entries. In my experience though, it's a blast to play. The core game loop exudes certain tightness and elegance that the sequels lack. Planning and prioritizing feels very natural. If you're looking for a good introduction to genre, or just a solid, simple back-to-basics turn-based strategy game (with some rough edges), you can't go wrong with HoMM1.

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Not for everyone

Everytime I try to dip my toes into a piece of postmodern storytelling, the same thing seems to happen -- a promising (if a bit pretentious) start, but then you wait it to go ahead and make a falsifiable point, and it never does. So then, if you find postmodernism interesting, you're going to love Disco Elysium. But if (like me) you just want to see what's all the fuss about, you might want to wait for a sale.

Cyberpunk 2077

Flawed, but quite enjoyable

Liked - Best voice acting ever in a game. - Graphics and art direction are great. - Solid writing, and the story is up to the CDPR standard. - Gunplay's competent, especially for an RPG. Disliked - Lots of bugs. Make sure you save frequently, and cycle between multiple save slots. - Driving doesn't feel good, which is a major problem in a GTA-like game. - RPG mechanics (loot, crafting, skill tree) need some serious rebalancing.

Heroes Chronicles: All Chapters

Heroes 3 had DLCs before it was cool

Heroes Chronicles are a funny thing. They were probably intended as a money grab. They feature relatively small amount of content. Especially for a 2000-2001 game. Especially for a Heroes of Might and Magic game. The price tag -- $20 for each chapter -- was kinda ridiculous back in the day. Unfortunately, that led to most people not knowing how good Heroes Chronicles actually are. They blow every other HoMM campaign out of the water! The missions offer great variety. The difficulty spikes of Heroes 3 are gone - you don't have to already know the map in order to beat it. The story is surprisingly good, which matters a lot since Heroes Chronicles are highly story-centric. I can especially recommend it to two groups of people: 1. People who want more of the same. After all, Heroes Chronicles is basically HoMM 3 DLC. 2. People who haven't played Heroes of Might and Magic before, but are curious. Or sceptic - this is the best entry to the HoMM universe in both cases. For $10 you can get 64 missions -- about an hour each -- of the most polished HoMM experience available.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

A diamond in the rough

If it wasn't rushed, incomplete and full of bugs, The Witcher could have been a masterpiece. It's still worth buying and playing, because the story, atmosphere and music are great. Also, CD PROJEKT RED are top guys!
