This game is eurojank defined. Its not irredeemable, but I highly suggest making any alterations to the settings in the INI files and making frequent saves in separate slots. And make sure you don't alt tab or lose focus on the game. This is highly likely to cause hang ups and freezing. The 8 times out of 10 the voiceacting is terrible the basic lip syncing is ridiculous and the animations (espically in the intro) is silly / janky. The story is serviceable given it has gone through a translator and by the end, I felt like I had a good grasp on all the characters and their motivations. Combat starts off a bit iffy, but by the end of the game I found every fight a breeze. Like my character had actually become good at fighting and the skills I had selected mattered not that I was just powering through it like a toddler with a hammer. Much to my surprised the final boss fight is actually good. Too many games crap out on the final boss fight not here though I even enjoyed the ending simple as it is. All in all if you like Risen or Gothic this game isn't for you because its actually good.
A very flawed souls like with a lot of bad ideas tainting its good ones. Choosing to take some of the worst aspects of the main line souls games whiles ditching some of its best choices. Level design: It's just awful. Taking Dark Souls god awful level design and making it worse in this incomprehensibly bad MC Esher layout. And NO MAP. Only a game designer would build a factory with this layout. No other human or A.I. would think this is passible. Combat: combat with basic mobs is satisfying until you're forced to kill the same guys an ungodly number of times. And at that point it's not even a challenge its boring. Boss encounters: Why does that two story tall tank with legs jump like it's made of tissue paper? Once again, not even a challenge just annoying having to quit instead of killing the boss so I get the only reward they drop that's worth while. As they dont respawn. Weapons:From basic pipes with some sharp bits on it too giant wrenches and high tech vibro blades its got some good variety. And I am very glad I got the second best weapon in the game from the first boss. So I never had any issues with my damage keeping up with the enemies. Armor: It's not a good sign when the best armor is the most basic armor you get at the beginning of the game. The lynx armor's actual armor is terrible and there's no real way to change that, but it's dodges boost and stamina reduction make it the best all round armor I came across.(it being better to avoid damage than try to tank it) Barring the fact that you have to swap to the Liquidator armor to get past all the elemental enemies and environmental damage that seems to take over after the second area. In this game it seems like armor is a noob trap. Implants: Great idea. Wish they did more with it. They basicly replace attributes and stats with these. Implants make your build. And your ability to use them is limited. Scrap: Basicly souls, but useless after a certain point. At one point I had a few million scraps. They could have and probably should have found more uses for this than core upgrades. Looting: All of your equipment comes from enemies. Need a new weapon or armor? Cut it off an enemy that has one you want. (Minus ranged weapons can't let the player have those) Need an upgrade for your armor or weapon? Find a more powerful enemy and cut it out of him. This is an example of a good idea taken from dark souls, that's been expanded in the good way. Albeit it gets alittile grindy. Having said all that after 16+ hours in and I just don't care to keep playing. I would rather go play other souls like to better design and a map even if it doesn't have the same aesthetic. Like Nioh.
This would be an amazing Modern Metroidvania where you are the horror that lurks in the shadows picking off the humans one by one or exploding into a room in a dervish of teeth and claws. And a mild mix of puzzles and story telling. But it lacks some serious QoL necessities like a functional saving system. Or a Map so you can get back to the areas you missed due to not having the right abilities yet. If they update id love to come back with more stars.
