After finally getting the chance to play the GOG version, I found it better than expected based on my experience. It booted up just fine on my modern laptop with no hiccups in performance after hours of playing. I changed the video settings to display a higher resolution but didn't see any texture issues. Maybe I'm missing something. My generic Xbox One controller connected to it right away with no issues. The only small issue I noticed, which isn't really bad, is the PS1 wobbly character face texture. This is 25-year-old game, so I don't see why you would care much about the graphics. That's just my opinion. The GOG version is still great if you just want to boot the game up and play. This comes from someone who beat the sourcenext version with the rebirth mod applied. I really hope this opens up the window for more Resident Evil games on GOG. Giving this version 4 out 5. Not perfect but pretty good.
The original PC port of Resident Evil was not great at the time. It did come with extra weapons, outfits, and uncensored Japanese cutscenes, but it was lacking compared to the console versions. Also, running the original PC port on modern hardware is almost impossible from my experience. However, GOG did a good job making sure this version runs on modern hardware with only a few hiccups. It now has native controller support for PC and Xbox controllers with remapping. There are also extra graphics options like adding anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. The best part is that I can now install the game, have it boot right up, and work for me. The only issue I had was gameplay being sped up, which is fixed by capping the FPS. I'm playing the game on window 11, with 4070, 13th Gen Intel Core i7 just fine. At the end of the day, you're getting a good PC version of one of the best survival games, thanks to GOG. Now give us 4,5,6 and maybe outbreak. Haha
First, the game is not installing Epic launcher. It's EOS, which is for cross-play MP. You can refuse to install it, and play the game fine. I'm positive the other version required Galaxy unless you did LAN play. People's opinions on whether needing EOS/Galaxy for MP is DRM a mixed bag. It's just weird to see people flat-out lying about EOS being required. Besides that, this game is lousy PC port. Many of the bugs from the original Saints Row IV are present here. Yes, that means Deep Silver Volition released Saints Row IV: Re-Elected without fixing bugs from the original release. Some bugs I encountered on both versions: 1. Saints would not spawn in the vehicles I picked for them. 2. Saints guardsmen will not spawn at all 3. Calling Saints and Gingerbread Homies would not spawn. 4. Events would not trigger on some missions. 5. My character's hair would disappear randomly on the spaceship. These issues are on GOG and Steam as well. Overall, this is a disappointing PC port.
You can start the game without an internet connection. You don't need to be online to agree and continue. I started the game fine without the internet right after installing it. The game is excellent, and the setting reminds me of the old PS2 shooter Darkwatch. If you like Western themes with fictional setting, this is for you.
DR is a classic 90s RTS with controls that can rival modern RTS. It had features like powering down your buildings way before games like Command & Conqueror 3. My only downside is that some missions can be difficult earlier on. There was a recent update from GOG that made it run better on windows 10 and fixed the saved bug.
