i dont actually have the GOG version yet but i will buy it because i still love this game after so many years the definitive life sim game, it actually felt like i was raising something alive i love its art and it's soundtrack (particularly its main theme) is something i think about a lot this is a biased and dumb review since i havent played the rerelease but i don't care, Creatures forever <3
ive never played the 3DO version before but i was always intrigued, and the PC version happened to be very cheap on GOG so why not, i thought i would give it a go! unfortunately, something is very wrong with the controls, slow, slidey and if you touch a surface you WILL get stuck i have no idea if this is a modern thing (running Windows 11), if this is a PC port issue, or if the game was like this on 3DO and no one ever mentioned it it's too bad because for me this game is unplayable and it's such a shame since the graphics and sound are amazing, atmospheric and actually kinda scary if you can deal with this issue, or know of a patch or something to fix it, get it, otherwise sadly you might wanna pass on this -_-
this game is one of the seminal VN of modern horror VN and it's just as good as the pirated fan translated version i played years ago (Sorry JAST, i made it right this time), even better translation than last and higher res art too! this is a horror eroge that goes to all the extremes of that, it's fine for me but for others it might go too far, so you've been warned. the art and sound are amazing but the game is rather short and very kinetic - a playthrough might have just 3 choices now for the big actual flaw - whether the game hates the GOG Galaxy overlay or something is borked, it will absolutely not run under Galaxy on Win11, you have to go to the game directory and run the exe to play it. A slight annoyance but not the end of the world Still a classic through and through. if you like f'd up horror vns, play today.
the popular 3DO platformer and it's a damn good port too, that still works under Windows 11 0_o a lot of people think Gex is a joke or a 90s relic or a bad game but nothing could be further from the truth. It's some solid platforming action with some great art and music, clever level design and a funny protagonist the save system or lack thereof has not aged well and the controls take a bit of getting used to, but this is well worth picking up, especially on the sale prices GOG has all the time it's not going to change your life or anything but you'll get a few hours of enjoyment for sure, check it out
