A cross section view of the future world, post alien invasion. The map is ONE city. I guess the idea was to be able to see and directly interfere with the actions you only heared about in the previous games. Every time the aliens attack, you will be able to see them all, shoot them down or at least see which building they invaded. Genius really. Every building in the city is destructible and is owned by someone, so watch that fire or relations will turn sour (such as your favourite grenades manufacturer). You can raid any building, either helping an organization with their alien infestation, or just shaking down the mall security for their shiny new toys and sell them. X-com or Kingpin, you decide. And this time you can go real-time!
As is abundantly clear by other reviews, this game is unforgiving... but not impossible. In fact, once you understand the mechanics, they can easily be exploited. That said, you will loose those soldiers. This game introduces more options to tackle the aliens (buildning bases on/off land), better management skills (don´t expect under-water-guns to work topside) and more time fighting (maps are much bigger than before). New music, new aliens, cool under water environments, and that healthy smell of fish.
I remember a friend had this game on floppys. I didn´t know much about it, nor was I much into strategy-games, but gawd! When I saw that intro, heared that music and saw that globe I was hooked. Nostalgia aside, this is an ageless game in a sense, and it manages to pull off things modern X-com games have struggled witch, such as fully destructible environments and UFOs. It´s unforgiving to the lazy player, but rewarding as hell if you get engaged in it. So install that GTX 1080, watch the gameplay run superfast, turn off that turbo-button, and kill some aliens.
This game was made for the curious gamer, who enjoys a real challange by solving puzzles and navigating through an unforgiving, but rewarding game world. The music is real treat as well. I played this game for 8 hours on my first sit down, and it just captivated me.
