Styx: Master of Shadows

Great Stealth Action Game

I love Stealth games as a genre. I love finding ways to avoid enemies instead of just running and gunning. And Styx is a masterpiece at this style of play. I also love how many of the levels are vertically oriented, not just horizontally. There are lots of interesting ways to go up (or down) around the main plane of activity for the guards, are more often than not, you are rewarded with new ways through for trying it out.

Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals

Possibly the worst game I ever played

I own, and regrettably played, this game on Steam. This game is a train wreck in terms of production values, but it's based on a fascinating source material. The game is based on a French graphic novel series which is apparently highly regarded, but I'm left with the distinct feeling that a lot of stuff was cut out for the game, and there wasn't any effort to smooth over the resulting plot holes. Gameplay-wise, it's a first person point & click adventure game, similar in play style to Myst. The puzzles are frustrating. Not just because they're unintuitive (they are), but also because you have a time limit on a lot of them, and you die if you don't act quickly. Individual steps in a solution often need to be done in a specific order, even if logically they could be done in any order and the result would be the same. The interface is also fiddly, and the cursor icons are obtuse. It's not always clear what will happen if you click on something. Sometimes, clicking on the same thing twice in a row does something different the second time. You can get stuck in places just because you foolishly only clicked the important macguffin once, and then disregarded it based on what happened the first time.
