Blasphemous 2

Feels flat

I love the first Blasphemous. It's hard but never feels unfair and is doable with patience. Lets start with the good points. The sequel introduces some nice new mechanics like the double jump to make the game more user friendly. This makes the game more forgiving. The settings are interesting and probably a little more imaginative than the first. The Severed Tower is fab. I love being able to choose the weapons. The pixel art is still gorgeous. Now, the not so good points... The bosses, I comparison to the first, just aren't than interesting. Minus a few exceptions, they're all small humanoid types and not a patch on bosses like Our Lady of the Charred Visage. There's far too many parts of the game where you're boxed in a small space with enemies; these parts just aren't fun. There's also a massive difficulty spike with the penultimate boss where it feels impossible to beat him.

Blasphemous

It's great!

I'm not Mr Hardcore Gamer by any stretch of the imagination but absolutely loved this. I've played through twice and the game is hard but fair I feel. Bosses are imaginative and rendered superbly in glorious pixel art and they never feel unfair to fight in contrast to the sequel. The world building is great even if the storyline and quests are completely obtuse. Get it when it's on sale and you'll have hours of fun or pain...
