In settings, turn the speed up to full. The speed makes YOU go faster but the 'bullets' seem to stay at the same pacing. For the route you take, check YouTube (didn't exist last time I got stuck here 30 years ago), but to make it actually possible - Speed up your game settings. I haven't played SQ5 yet but I owned both SQ4 and SQ6 as a kid - Now that I'm older, I actually understand more of the jokes.
