Overall, SWAT 4 is a fun experiance with engaging elements of gameplay but not without its flaws. It's an FPS with extra steps, you can't just shoot willy-nilly, you have to think and decide if a suspect is going to surrender, run away, or shoot at you. The split second decision making sometimes feels like you need an inhuman reaction time. The button layout can feel a bit clunky at first and needs some getting used to. The game will sometimes crash, and it's especially annoying just as your about to finish a level. However, despite the janky apsects, it is a still very fun experiance with some environments that are really well put together and really do make the world of SWAT 4 feel like it's lived in. The AI of your SWAT buddies can sometimes feel like they just got out of bed from a hangover (like throw a flashbang at their feet dumb) or they can literally save your life on multiple ocasions. Sometimes I feel like they could have added a riot shield of some sort, especially in the later levels where almost every crazed gunman has a gasmask and shades that somehow blocks flashbangs. I'm sure there's mods out there that fixes these issues anyway. Overall, really fun game from 2005 that might not be as good as Half-Life 2 or F.E.A.R, but still delivers in its own unique way. If you ever consider playing it, make sure to at least check out the second level.
