I love this game, just like I love the original. The guns are all satisfying, the enemies are fun, the music is awesome, and the bosses actually require strategy. However, it can be frustratingly hard at time, more-so than the original. There are a ton of insta-death platforming parts, enemies that can take off half your health in one hit, and if you die at the start of a level, you lose all your weapons. This wouldn't be such a big problem, but there is no quick-save, just stretched out check points. Still, fans of old school shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Rise of the Triad: Dark War need to have this in their collection.

I'm a huge fan of horror games, and I really hated the original Slender. It was scary and atmospheric the first few times, but after getting insta-killed for the fifth time in a row, the game stopped being scary and just became frustrating. Fortunately, this remake alleviates that problem somewhat. The game contains five levels, each with a different goal which usually revolves around finding X something before getting killed. The level that's basically a remake of the original "The Eight Pages" stays fun over multiple deaths by making the whole forest layout randomly generated, making each frantic run through interesting as you try to get used to the new layout. The other levels are not random, except for pickup locations, but they also stay interesting by adding new enemies and gimmicks. I would have given this game a better score, if not for the fact that the game is very short. Not counting all the attempts that ended in death, the whole game took me about an hour to beat, which at this price point, hurts it compared to other similarly priced games on this site. It is also badly optimized, as I played it on a decently powerful gaming rig, and had to spend a lot of time fiddling with the settings to make it run at a playable frame rate. Overall though, this is a well done, hauntingly atmospheric game that I can easily recommend to any horror fan.
