UFO is a perfect game. Specially because of high variety of available combinations either from destructible environment, by throwing smoke grenades or using obstacles to hide from line of sight, by attacking from multiple directions, day or nigh time, and much more. Every combat mission is like a short game by itself. Everything is random but with great game design which also includes incremental progress. This creates never ending flow of enjoyable, challenging and surprising situations. What is important for me is that You can have an edge in this game: High variety of weapons and munition are cheap, yet some very deadly. Your soldiers get promotions and improve their stats which makes huge difference. There is also base building, research, purchases, production, maintenance costs, funding from combat score and the pleasure to keep all of that in balance. There is always something to do. In the first few months I decided to clear a well hidden alien base on Antarctica which I discovered purely by accident. I took a bunch of total rookies but I equipped them with rocket launchers and auto cannons with explosive munition. All my marines got promotions and improved their stats a lot after such mission. Only one of them had mild injury and needed to stay in a hospital for few days.
System Shock is about great atmosphere and exploration of space station citadel sci-fi dungeon. System Shock can be enjoyed also in story mode by setting combat and cyber difficulty to one or simply to zero. Then nobody is shooting at you and it is just exploration, adventure, puzzles and story. I just finished GOG enhanced version. The enhanced version has better graphics and mouse control over the original version. It took me about one month of casual game play without a game guide. My actual play time was 18 hours with score 1,251,535 but I got stuck for 2 or 3 hours many times. When I got stuck I did not know what to do next or I could not find some hidden button so I stopped playing and returned to it week later.
Compared with Settlers 1 or 2, I do not like Settlers 4 and 3. You no longer build roads to enjoy creating logistics networks. Graphics is now 3D and looks bad. Combat is now almost like Command & Conquer or other real time strategy games. I could attack from any distance to any place with any number of soldiers. You do not start with nicely packed storehouse - many piles of various stocks are now outside, looking like a landfill.

Settlers 2 aka "Gold & Catapults" is the best settlers game. It has much better interface than Settlers 1. And it is the last installment of the game where you build roads to connect your farms, mills, woodcutters, sawmills, etc. to create wonderful logistics network.
