Psychonauts

brilliant, excuse a few bugs

If you can excuse the occasional/rare game breaking bug, then there is nothing to hate in this game. Every character is fleshed out and well written. The dialogue and scenarios are funny and the mechanics are rock solid. however, yes there will be a few occasions where the game freezes, but there was only one instance where it happened during gameplay, every other time it happened during or after cutscenes. Crashing aside, the game really is a master piece.

Dyad

Easy to learn, hard to master

If anyone walks up to you and says "I've got 3 stars on every level of Dyad, even the bonus level." take pride in the fact that humanity has at last made contact with aliens. Dyad works on a simple concept that is then built upon to produce some serious challenges. This game is so addictive due to it's simplicity. You will find yourself forgetting to blink, and staring point blank at the screen. Flying down a neon tunnel at break-neck speed shooting enemies as accurately as you can make for a colourful thrill ride no other game I can think of could hope to match. If you think you can playing this game and just start mashing buttons, you clearly have a lot to learn. I won't start talking about all the various mechanics and how important accuracy is because we will be here all day. I will say that the game's simple mechanics are always given a proper introduction and are explained very well. You never feel like you don't know what's going on. Do not feel put of by the game, simply because prior to playing, you saw some gameplay of the final level and didn't know what was going on. If you play the game, it will teach you everything you need to know. The game is unlike anything I've ever played, and it gets a hearty recommendation from me.

Ether One Redux

Poorly optimised and underwhelming.

The art assets were very nice, The world is well-constructed and very open, though the level design is not very intuitive, so getting lost does happen. Also the game sometimes doesn't tell you what to do AND doesn't give you enough of a hint, so at one point I did have to look up a walkthough. Unfortunately this well-constructed world was crippled by poor frame rates and a poorly written story. You never meet any of the other characters, and I never felt like I learned who they were. Towards the end the story starts to become more about the player character, but we are never told about who it is we are playing as. The game really isn't optimised well, at one point I turned my screen resolution down to 640 x 480 which got rid of all the lag, but it also made my eyes saw. (For comparison, the computer I was using has the following: i7 Quad Core CPU 16GB ram Nvidia Quadro 1000M GPU) The story was told badly and either having laggy controls or saw eyes was not ideal. When the game ended I had absolutely no desire to play it again. For a retail price of £12, I do not think this game was worth it.
