This definitive edition is basically everything I've wanted from Relic to breathe new life into this game for newer systems. I still remember the day I walked into the store on the release of the original game back in the day. A glorious time. I still have the original boxes for the game and DLC as well (everything except Soulstorm) Only additional things I would love to see would be: - Tyranids! the last important missing faction, I could've done without sisters of battle or dark eldar to be honest. - Cloud save support for GOG, it seems to be there for Steam, but not GOG unfortunately. - WASD navigation support instead of arrow keys. - Ability to disable everything Soulstorm, and have skirmish work on Dark Crusade ruleset and units, it was a lot better imo.
I'm 7,5 hours into the campagin at the moment of writing. So far, this game is very enjoyable. The vibes are good, voiceacting in the campagin fits the tone. Graphics are pretty enough to be pleasing, but not over the top. Variety in units, abilities, upgrades (during campagin) are good. Music is neutral, not really memorable, not annoying, it's serviceable. Campaign missions so far are well thought out and challenging. Don't really have gripes with the game as of yet. The only thing I'd like to see in the future is to see the Eldar (not dark eldar) and Chaos Space Marines added as playable factions. Maybe some campaign DLC's for the other factions other than just the sisters and space marines. Thus far I'd recommended this game, but keep in mind I bought this on a sale. If you're unsure about the game, try out the main game before buying the DLC, and go through the campaign, I''m sure you'll enjoy it, if you're a fan of turn based strategy.
5 stars for the game. 1 star for the state of release on this platform, this is unacceptable. No LAN multiplayer No wide screen fix These where the 2 things I thought they'd be working on and testing as a reason for the extremely long waiting time since being in the store until the release just now. I don't know what they've been doing all this time, but stripping out LAN and still not adding a wide screen fix is not a good way to spend your time working on this release. This could've been released months ago in this state. I regret my purchase.
