The graphics and attention to detail are really superb. When I'm playing I can't help but think this must be what it looks like to fly a jet in combat. I've never been past the first sorite, though. The enemies just keep coming with no end in sight and I can't figure out how to complete the mission. I'm sure it's my ineptitude and not the game, though.
The scenery is beautiful but the game as a whole is undercut by a constant feeling of melancholy. I'm sure you'll love the game if you're into that kind of thing. It just wasn't my thing. I hope the author keeps working on new things because I'd love to see what he comes up with. Maybe something more upbeat?
I was able to play it under Wine for a few hours and then it stopped working. Now, whenever I try to reinstall or even install on a new PC (in Linux under Wine) it won't go past the startup dialog without crashing. I'll update the review with the specific error message when I get the time. I also installed it on a Windows 10 machine and it worked fine. Unfortunately, that's not where I play my games. 5 stars for the game but deducted 2 for crashing and 1 for zero chance of a fix.
I've been a fan of this game for many years so when I saw it on GOG I was so happy! It runs great on Linux and gamepad support works perfectly. It's my go-to game for when I want to just shoot stuff. The powerups, weapons and perks keep me interested and it never get's boring no matter how many times I play. If I had one gripe, I wish there were names under the weapon icons on the screen where you choose a weapon. It can get hard to distinguish between them from over 10ft away. 10Tons: IMO you would do well to develop a sequel. Maybe each level, location, baddies & weapons could progress through history or something but keep the same mechanics. Good times.
The only reason I got this is because GOG said it has "Controller Support" but there's no "real" controller support to speak of. There is no way to map your controller's sticks or buttons - it just binds whatever the developer thinks they should be and that's all you get. This is not what I would call "Controller Support". It's definitely a good looking game but it's unplayable with JUST a controller.
