I've been playing this game (SMAX) for 26 years, but the latest Windows 11 update seems to have broken it. When I load a save, or start a new game, it seems to be locked into multi-player and crashes immediately. The game itself gets the 5 star rating, and hopefully GOG will fix this issue.
Let me start off by saying that my favorite game in this genre is Skyrim, so some of my opinions will be based on a comparison of the two games. Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD) is a good game that I have enjoyed playing, but it does have some flaws. The Good: • Superb graphics that make the world look and feel very realistic. I have a fairly high-end PC (see below) and everything runs very smooth. • Excellent story, dialogue, and voice acting. • Some of the cut-scenes are quite enjoyable and help tell the story better than gameplay dialogue would. • First-Person-View! This is a MUST-have for me in games like this. I want to be IN the world, not watch my character run around in it. • I like the way fast travel is done. The chance of being ambushed along the way makes it more interesting. The Bad: • Too many cut scenes in the beginning. It felt more like I was watching a movie than playing a game. I was anxious to get out and explore the world! • Lockpicking and Pickpocket are HORRIBLE! Skyrim did both so much better. Holding down the 'D' key causes the lock to rotate completely in about 2 seconds. I can't drag the gold ball with the mouse in a perfect circle in that short time. • Stamina drain is almost a game-breaker for me. I can't get in more than one hit with a bow or sword if there is more than one opponent. Using the bow or sword drains stamina, then one or more enemies hit me which drains my stamina to zero, and then I'm killed. • Melee combat is also horrible. I'm going to spend more time at the trainer, but if that doesn't help then I'm at the point where it's a game-breaker. As I said above, I rarely get in more than one hit on multiple enemies before my stamina is gone. • No Replay Value. The main quest line is very linear, there's almost no character customization, and very little choice for combat skills (Bow or Melee).
