Got this game for free, and after watching the Rings of Power, had that LotR itch.... This sure as hell did not scratch it. Arkham style gameplay (though it feels more hollow) with a threadbare plot not worth paying attention to, no plot setup, and repetitive, boring, shallow gameplay. You might like this if your twenty or younger and haven't had decades worth of game experience... But for anyone who's been around the block time and time again, please ask yourself: "Is this 'been there, done that' average at best video game experience worth whittling away my precious remaining life time?" No. No it is not. Uninstalled. Won't remember a second of this snorefest.
I own, and still do to this game, my original BG and BG2 CDs and to date I've probably played them the most of any other PC in my collection. Bar none, this is the RPG to beat for the PC platform. The story takes place in the well developed AD&D world of Forgotten Realms; more specifically on the Sword Coast. The story, characters, non-linear quests, and epic villain will stick with you for years. Even after playing this game through countless times, I have never quite done every quest in the game because you have complete freedom to kill whomever you wish in this game - often causing quests to become different or no longer in existence. You also have different quests/story lines based on which party members you keep/kill/ignore. The only real downside of this game is the heavy text which might be a turn off for newer-age gamers as well as the reliance on some understanding of the AD&D dice rolling/spell system. For this price? What are you waiting for. I suggest this game over the first.
