There are a lot of things to love about this game from the over-the-top character to the crazy guns to the sense of freedom of movement but it's held back by a few things. 1 - Loot/level-based FPS games jsut don't work. There's no way to have a levelling mechanic and satisfying gun feel without compromising the sense of power of one or both systems. I like the idea but it just doesnt work. Furthermore the loot in this game is largely collecting gems with very slight numerical differences. I would much rather have way fewer collectible items (perhaps unlockable by performing certain in-game achievements) that have more interesting effects on the gameplay. 2 - All enemies teleport. This is annoying because it makes the excellent freedom of movement completely pointless, makes procedural maps pointless and reduces the sense of strategy and problem-solving that could be found in linear sections of games like Quake and Doom. It reduces the whole game to a numbers crunch where the only viable tactic is to bounce around in a circle and hope you dont run out of ammo before you do enough damage. A real shame because generally the procedural level design and the enemy design are really good.

An amazing game I have been playing for over a decade. The engine scales flawlessly to modern resolutions and hardware, the offline bots have a range of skill levels so you can play whether you want a challenge or just to botstomp, some online servers still going and easy enough to locally host one to play with friends. loads of maps, loads of customisable options for every gamemode, loads of mods and community support. I can't recommend this game enough and a big thanks to GOG for making it available DRM-free!

Pretty average (at best) turn-based strategy game with very limited unit customisation (especially considering the setting) and very limited rpg elements. Story mode has a lot of long feature missions which are good for the first play but increasingly frustrating/boring during subsequent playthroughs. The lore, universe and characters unfortunately go beyond the original, rich and realistically diverse setting of Battletech and straight into SJW territory. Devs are not worth supporting and have a long list of other titles which range from the half-assed to the entirely abandoned. I wish I could refund this title.
