I came in to this game as I already love it, period. But as I started playing my Evil playthroug I realised I'm either constantly in combat, reloading the game or killing / loosing characters while loosing a ton of content doing that. I didn't like the roleplay of it at all and I was mostly frustrated. It's obvious you have to play a good character to get most out of the game.
First of all I want to tell you that this game doesnt deserve 5 stars but I just wanted to compensate those nonsensical 1 or 2 stars reviews so I gave it 5... But its definitely worth 4 stars in my opinion. I loved SpellForce 2, I was so happy when I saw that devs didnt abandoned SF2 and were sill releasing new content for it. I was sceptical about SF 3 but actually its like SF2 but far more better! Im happy that SF3 happened, it has so much content in it. And if the devs will support game with content like SF2 then Oh boy! I wish to THQNordic and to Grimlore team all the best. PS: Be aware of bugs... PPS: Still less bugs than in Bethesda game :D
Its a * * * * game but I gave it 5 * to compensate those single star reviews which are absolute bullshit. I'm enjoying every minute of the game. PROS: Gameplay Factions (Hi-tech, Mad max junkies, Natural magick types) Hard (get a companion ASAP otherwise you will have som hard times f.e. Doran of Berserkers) Choices affecting the world around World actually lives (wandering monsters/NPCs with theirs day/night activities) World (they somehow managed to mix future, real time and medieval into 1 beautiful world which actually makes sense. Absolutle masterpiece in this point of view.) Story Companions Its Gothic !!! CONS: Graphics Animations AI Newcomers to "PB game" will have some pretty hard times Game doesn't explain choices in dialogues (You have no idea which Dialogue option will give you negative/positive or none outcome. And from the Options its not absolutely obvious...)
You can feel and see that devs aren't making this game only for money. You can see that they love their work and their product. Respect! PROS - Game's current content value is much bigger than games price - Dual class system - 8 Masteries (I must say that I like every mastery in this game) - Devotion system (Find Shrines all around the world and unlock special Passive/Active skills. Its really fun system because not only you have to explore and search hidden areas for those Shrines to get points but you also have to think twice to maximize effectiveness of your Devotion) - Dungeons - Secrets all around the world - Reputation system - Crafting and Transmuting - Huge amounts of enchants for items - Relics - Challenging difficulty - Multiplayer - Large map with different zones ( all with its own troubles and atmosphere) - Grim atmosphere throughout whole game - Dark graphics (you actually can't see much in dungeons, in night, etc.) - Large amounts of loot - Day/Night cycle with weather - Interacting with world (creating bridges, destroying blockades, upgrading town, etc.) - Story (An ARPG with a good story? Hell yeah! I absolutely fell into those short stories that you can find around. At some point I could feel the struggle of people in the world of Cairn. For example you can find a journal pages telling a story about decent family trying to escape the apocalypse only to fall to the absolute bottom and becoming murderers and cannibals due to starvation) CONS - Story could be given to player some other way (Outside of quests you can find notes and journals which contains personals stories of people around you or informations about zone its history etc. But first you have to find it... And then you can still miss previous pages... I don't like it, Its a mess) - Could have better music (Theres almost none) - Missing character customization (You can only pick your gender. Give us som personalization dammit! :D)
