Eschalon: Book I

Great fun, but nothing unique

This game is fun and pretty addicting. The mechanics are maybe a little too simple, and the story is very basic. Combat as a mage is mostly killing one enemy and running away to rest and regenerate your magic energy. You can beat it in less than 20 hours, though I didn't finish all the side quests. I think the graphics and sound are nice. Since it's free, definitely give it a chance.

Lighthouse: The Dark Being

Classic game with classic issues

I really enjoyed playing this title as a blast from the past. It features a beautiful world with some clever ideas and a compelling story. Unfortunately many of the puzzles seem to be complete trial and error with little to no feedback. The in-game hint system falls a bit short in sections where you could get stuck under certain conditions. The game is also a bit buggy; it locked up on an infinite loading sequence in several places. The ScummVM log window also doesn't close automatically when exiting the game. It's also really easy to accidentally delete your progress by clicking on the New Game button. This button is really close to the Save Game button and it doesn't ask for confirmation. I recommend playing this if you like to be immersed in a magical world, and also to use a guide anytime you get a bit stuck. Because the puzzles have little logic to them, it isn't all that rewarding to find the solution.
