While I did buy this on the Epic store(I don't regret getting it when it launched), I would absolutely recommend this game to everyone regardless on which store you get it on. The game itself is beautiful, the humor is funny( take a few minutes an watch the commercials on you ship, they are insanely funny), while combat isn't the main focus of the game it is very well designed and responsive. The voice acting is exceptional and adds life to a game with a largly silent protagonist, though the explorer isn't life less, they are brought to life with gestures and actions. The only problem I had was the grappling beam not connecting properly, but that is the only bug I have ever encountered in the game. Today the standard is to have a new game plus to make following playthroughs easier and let them explore, Typhoon decided to go a very different route, Old Game Minus, you start with nothing extra, nothing you had carries over, you are on the clock(if you take too long bad things happen), and to make it just that slight bit more challenging you have only 3 lives.(It's not a s easy as it sounds) This game isn't something you can easily describe in words so I would absolutely recommend buying, it is more than worth the asking price.(If you have friends, the game is co-op, and there is friendly fire).
Wanted to wait to write a review for the game until I had some play time and now that I do I can say from my persepective the game is in need of a lot of polish, just like the witcher 3 when it first launched but it plays and if you didn't buy into the hype and kept your expecations in check you will probably be happy. The game plays a lot like Deus Ex HR and MKD, though some systems like the crafting are expanded upon while systems like stealth have been nerfed(the stealth system does need work as well as a better expalnation during the tutorial), gun play is largely the same but with an expanded arsenal. Now for the bad, as of writing this the keybindings still can't be changed, which is irritating for me but for others can make the game almost unplayable, there are still a great many bugs, though for me, I have yet to encounter a game breaking bug, just Misty's textures not loading in properly, NPCs walking in mid-air, and the most annoying not being able to loot somethings(though that is a rare bug). I was able to fix the bugs with a close and relaunch, though that shouldn't be necessary. I would have hoped the game would be in a better state after 2 delays(unless I'm forgetting another) and that many of the bugs would have been squashed, that being said, it is still one of the best major studio releases of the year. For those who have actually played the TTRPG, this is as close to bringing that game to life as I think any studio could ever hope to get with current technology, the damage seems to be based largely on dice rolls. Though the one thing missing, or atleast I haven't found it yet, losing humanity when adding cybernetics. All in all the game is fun but is in desperate need of polish and bug squashing to reach it's full potential.
