The Outer Worlds: Non-Mandatory Corporate-Sponsored Bundle

Above average, but missing something.

Played on another platform. It's competent enough. Gameplay and graphics are solid (although I prefer using ReShades to change the color palette to my preferences). If you just want more gameplay in the vein of those classic RPG shooters, like Fallout, this is an obvious purchase. Personally though, while the story was serviceable enough, I just didn't feel the humor and the character work. Not enough gravitas or development for me to get invested in anyone, but not enough farce to go into the realms of Borderlands 2 (and the Borderlands series never really got better than the 2nd either, IMO, barring that first Tales game). Ultimately, I think it's worth getting on sale, just for the quality and gameplay time alone. But personally, I just can't pull the trigger on character work that is a bit more shallow than I really wanted from the game. Perhaps I'm just spoiled by all the mods and additional content that we were able to get from Fallout 3/4.

GreedFall – Gold Edition

Worth buying and playing

This is a solid game, and perhaps the most polished entry from this company. I hope this is a sign of further improvement on future titles. This is closer to AAA, but really well polished AA at the least. The game does a decent job of drawing you in fairly quickly. Decent story, gameplay, graphics, and sound. Certainly welcome with such a dearth of Bioware style games currently. The ending certainly felt a bit rushed, which happens to many such titles. But overall well worth the time investment, especially with the sequel now announced. I'll be honest, I definitely played with mods, because I can't always be bothered to deal with the leveling structure in games nowadays. But there is a healthy collection of other options on that front as well, for folks who want it. The DLC is really short, and ultimately doesn't affect the story at all. The DLC is worth playing, but not worth screwing up the mods, unless you are a completionist. I'd say have a separate save file for a DLC run, if you do mods.

GreedFall

Worth your time, especially on sale

Got the PS4 version when it was on deep discount. Amazing value. The story was compelling, the character work was solid, the graphics are respectable. Definitely a cut above the previous entries, and hopefully a sign of greater things in the future. The ending was a bit rushed, and the DLC was, quite frankly, undercooked. But again, if you can get it on sale, it's well worth the time investment. And if you are a fiend for storyline-rich action RPGs, a la Bioware, then you'd be happy even without the sale price. One caveat: it's well worth getting the mods. Per many Spiders' titles, the game balance can be a bit off for some people. Especially if you just want to play with the different abilities. So I never minded giving myself a head start with the leveling. Other than that and the rushed ending/DLC, no complaints.

The Technomancer

Gem of a game, with a MAJOR BUG!

STEAM VERSION REVIEW: Spiders seems to have mastered the "AA" space of game dev, which is sorely lacking in the modern gaming landscape. Per most games by them, there's a lot to love in the story and concept. They even outdid themselves in the visual department, especially if you use ReShade to improve and sharpen the image. Unfortunately, the game itself has issues working on any rig that has more than 8 cores. I've tried using Control Panel and 3rd Party software to limit how many cores the game uses, but the only way I've been able to get it to work is to go into my system's own msconfig and limiting the cores, while I play the game. Granted, I read somewhere that Steam forces all cores, so this might not be an issue with the GoG version, but it's still worth noting. Still, if you are willing to troubleshoot the bug, and can appreciate the concept for what it is, the game is well worth your time. Especially since Bioware style games are so few and far between nowadays.

Cyberpunk 2077

Worth your time.

I'll be honest, I mod for this game, so I'm not the most objective. However, Patch 1.5 also nuked a lot of mods, my own included. So I feel like that sort of even things out. At any rate, my experience with the game has always been as good as one could have asked, simply because I was fortunate to have a rig that ran it well. Only one or two real glitches. Post-patch, I think it's worth a look for anyone who was on the fence. Is it GTA or Assassin's Creed? No. But is it a fun romp through a rich world, with amazing story and compelling characters? Absolutely. And that's why I love this game. Sure, I could use some more activities to do with the allies you make in the game, but the core gameplay is solid, and the branching story paths are satisfying.
