This game is still more of a true Deus Ex sequel than Human Reovultion and Mankind Divided. Yes, it's way watered down and made for consoles compared to the original (the GOAT) but the story is still just as engaging to me. I played it so much when I had it for my OG Xbox. Good to see GOG offering it for the PC.
I'm liking the writing and story telling aspects of the game. Voice acting is good. The combat with a controller works well enough. The camera panning with the right thumb stick isn't smooth but that doesn't detract from the game. The game rewards exploration and has light RPG elements like combat abilities, weapons, and outfit upgrades. You can switch to control your companion any time and it even has a split screen feature, which I have not tried but it seems like a nice co-op experience. All in all, it's fun hack and slash game. Only thing missing is the lack of controller button layout in the options. It only shows keyboard settings.
Was kinda craving bad for that Gauntlet action but no longer have my OG Xbox. Enter this game. Plays a lot like it. Which is a great thing in my book. Noticed an odd quirk with contollers. My bionik vulcan wouldn't work right, the buttons didn't register. My 360 wireless controller worked fine though. Who knows. Also noticed when using the ultrwide resoltuon of 2560x1080, that certain menu elements didn't scale and got cut off. I think I'm gonna stick to regular 1080p for this one.
Visuals - Looks pretty yet too cluttered and distracting where everything environmental just pops out at you. It's a bit overwhelming and it doesn't feel natural. Voice acting - Terribly boring. V is this really liad back type that always seems to need just the right nudge and a chuckle to get involved in anything. Jackie wanting to be on your tip right from the get-go is so fake and make Jackie look like a dimwit. It's so campy. It's just doesn't work. Stability - Never crashed on me but I could never get myself to play past where you crash in your pad for the first time. Verdict - Dissappointed. Wait until it goes on sale.
I'm not a RPG buff but I've enjoyed the Elderscrolls series and this game is similar to Oblivion and Skyrim in style and scope. I like the inventory system where the size of the item in a grid view forces you to organize beyond just weight. Just like Deus Ex. I really like how you can combine the same items to make a stronger version it, such as weapon or armor. The story and writing style is unique and doesn't feel cheap or generic. The hero is confident and comes off with a certain swagger that makes dialog with NPC's enjoyable.
