This is one of those games that was just a tad too far ahead of its time, and now it looks dated. But only to those people who put eye-candy ahead of everything else that actually matters in a game or even a story come to that. I won't defend its shortcomings - heaven knows, it's not perfect; the umpteenth time you fail to make a jump being the most egregious issue, and the illusion of depth in the gameworld is easily broken. But it more than holds its own against its contemporaries such as Half Life and Deus Ex, and deserves its belated recognition.
