I hate to say that, but of all the fast paced racing games I have this is about the least fun. The tracks are too narrow, collisions almost stop the ship immidiately, there is no freedom to pick a different lines and the weapons are about as boring as in Redout. In turn they never shoot me off the track right before the finish line, but it feels tedious to use them without any real effect. Graphics are on Wipeout 3 level and this game is 25 years old. I tested Wipeout 2048 on Vita3k, and the difference is actually huge, while that game is made for a handheld console from 2012. 2048 racetracks and gunplay are way more fun too. I really like the soundtrack though and modding support is top notch! I added some stars for modding support and updates, great stuff! Going through maps from modders was like a treasure hunt, but unfortunately many of them suffer extreme framerate drops on checkpoints and weapon pickups. I lost places crashing into walls with a framerate close to 0 in some areas, and it's not just my pc, official showcase videos from modders have the same framerate drops.
I bought it a second time here to keep it forever. I played it for over 200 hours over the last 4 years and still revisit it when I want a fast racing game that feels just right. Great track variety, free line choice, difficulty and speed class are always adjustable, split-screen, and of course some really chaotic racetracks that make use of the flippable cars. I feel like this is the logical progression from rally racing, with higher speeds and more capable cars. Some people complained that cars lose traction and fly off the track on bumps, and I agree that the traction could be a bit higher, but it's just natural for any MX-bike, rally car, trophy truck or any other vehicle to take off at high speeds, and the jumps wouldn't be possible with more downforce. So adjust your speed like you do for turns. It's just natural and the way it should be for an offroader like me. I hope Grip 2 gets mod support - we need way more tracks!
