Mafia III: Definitive Edition

Fun, but not Mafia

I found a lot of enjoyment in this game, more than even Mafia II, which was 50% driving from place to place in an empty, uninteresting city. However, this does not feel like a Mafia game in any sense. The mafia plays a small role beyond being an antagonist. Beyond the introduction there are no ongoing themes about family, loyalty, trying to become "made," or the evil that comes with a part of being in the mob. The protagonist is a supersoldier mass-murderer out for revenge. Is it fun? Definitely. Does it belong in the Mafia franchise? Hell no. One mobster antagonist and a returning face from a previous game does not make this Mafia. So if you're looking for a fun game, you've found one. If you're looking for the same linear, story-driven experience as the previous two Mafia games, you haven't found it.
