Waterloo

A great realist Game provided .....

I sank many hours into this DOS game [even late at night] when it first came out [bcos it is RTS - there is auto saves so u can stop but its a better experience playing a complete game] I don't own it on GOG but I bought it on steam about a year ago and its the exact same game it was, the game play is unmodified. Here comes the PROVISO - I had to dig out the old game to get the MAP and MANUAL booklet to reaquaint myself with the specific commands you need to give your commanders otherwise you can't play the game. The map [that came with the game originally] is EXCEEDINGLY useful as well because apart from place names it also a grid overlay allowing u to judge distances like 'defend 1/2 mile east of La-haie-saint'. I did look outside of the game on the net and found the manual and map fairly easily at the time but u need the map constantly so u will need to print it off [i dont think the game will work if u switch to a pdf or jpg to view the map which would kill the enjoyment of the game for me. - keep switching between the game and map.] The Game Provided you've got the correct 'orders' list and a hard copy of the game map from elsewhere on the internet [I definitely didn't find them in-game if they are there!] Then you can start. You play as either Napolean or Wellington and only view the battlefield from their perspective. You play by giving orders to your aide de camp to take to your Corp commanders. They in-turn give orders to their aide de camp to be taken to the division leaders under there command and the bttle is carried out thus. These aide de camp can get lost captured or killed so orders will not always reach their destination. Each game takes between 2-3 hours and is very addictive [i found anyway] I said it was RTS and it kind of is as the battle continues without your input- but u give orders -end the turn - the game advances 15min- then u can give new orders and so on...
