I started playing cRPG on Amiga. Then PC and I watched the rise and fall of this specific genre of games. But I was hopeful... I belived there will be some madmen somewhere who will finally made cRPG that will be worthy of the title "Next Gen of gaming" This is it. No matter if you are hardcore psychofan of RPG or total newbie. Set the difficulty accordingly and immerse in this ocean of adventure and storytelling.
There is not too much game content to review so I'll also mention the reasoning behind paying for this DLC. ||[the game content]|| I'd advise new players with low level characters to visit it a.s.a.p. The area is safe, no enemies there. You will get NKVD knife which has decent damage and low AP cost. And you will get camo suit, which is using the least used body part slot - face. And you get massive bonus to stealth skill, which will help you break in to rooms or cases full of items while NPC are nearby. And what's most useful, you can pickpocket more safetly. ||[Goodies]|| A full soundtrack in 3 different audio file formats, to satisfy everyone. 65 tracks gives you over 4 hours of music from the game. And you also get HD wallpapers set, which are the graphics seen on loading screen. ||[Why to get it]|| I bought it because the amount of fun this game gave me so far compared to it's price is ridiculous. How many times I paid 20-30 pounds (GBP) to play the game maybe for 20-40 hours and that's it. ATOM RPG for 11 pounds offered me so far nearly 500 hours and surely will give more. Game creators are working tirelessly improving the game, adding new content and they do those upgrades for free. I'd dare to compare their approach to players to CD PROJEKT RED, who were updating Witcher series for months for free. And when I reported some game bug, I get reply within few hours, and the fix was implemented to the game next day. Therefore this studio deserves this small cash booster, which surely will give them motivation to create new content in game.
Well, after 20 years since I played this game for the first time, I believed it's ok to say, this is one of the best fantasy turn-based strategy with RPG elements, ever made. And the fact that people are still organising tournaments, proves that multiplayer mode is still valued among players. HD modes made this game playable on newest PCs with operating systems invented decade after the game release. I started my adventure with Might and Magic RPG and Heroes of Might & Magic I was something interesting, but when HoM&M II has been released I spent whole summer holiday at home with my mates playing hotseat multiplayer and we just never had enough of it...
I was really hesitating to buy this game at first, but first positive reviews from Fallout series fans changed my mind. And after finishing it for the second time, this time on expert level, I can admit I'm thinking about playing it for the third time. And each gameplay will be unique. You can't master all skills, therefore you can be a sniper, diplomat, thug, martial arts guru or simply extremely trained survivalist or you can mix all basic skills of each developement branch. The atmosphere is perfect. As a person who remember communism from kid's perspective, this is so much like if this era didn't end, but evolved under very extreme circumstances. If you have to run away from 3 drunken peasants armed with broken glass, because the will surely beat you, you feel challenged by the game's reality. Don't count on armor too much because you might get knocked down and surrounded. This game will not show you where to go or what to do, you have to work it out. TLDR: If you miss Fallout 1 & 2 play this russian Fallout 3.
How many times you lose a duel with someone in other card game due to rng? No matter how many good cards you have in Gwent, the strategy is the key to success. Extra card on your hand can shift the victory chances in your favour. Tactical thinking will get you to the top of leaderboard, not a lot of legendaries in your deck. Because you can have max. 3 legendary cards, and 6 epic cards. the rest is what wins the game. Not many games offer nowadays such limitations. Each nation got unique way of winning. I spent money only on starter pack (it is a GOOD DEAL). The game is not forcing you to buy hundreds of barrels to keep up. I can craft a lot of legendary cards with card pieces gained by milling the extra cards (you can only have 3 copies of bronze and ONE copy of silver and golden), but prefer to spend it only when I need a specific one for my new deck idea. This is not a game for dummies. The rng was introduced in computer card games for all those who are poor tacticians, but have a lot of money so they can get tons of rng based cards and win duels with much more tactical players. In this game your brain is the key to victory, not the size of your wallet.
