Fallout: London

A flawed gem with great potential

The stars is a bit of a misnomer, more realistically, I would give my experience so far a solid 7 or so. After a few hours, it is clear this is a labor of love from the FOLON team, and that generally translates well to it being a good game; being a total conversion, painstaking detail is put into giving everything a more British feel than base FO4, as to be expected, such as a British Sunset Sarsaparilla-esque replacement for Nuka-Cola (which does still make an appearance) in the form of Ion. For a mod, and even compared to some games, the voice acting is fairly good, the VAs are clear and fuzzy/grainy or otherwise low quality, though being an American I can't really comment on the accents themselves. However, not everything is all sunshine and rainbows across the pond. The biggest issue I've come across is atrocious load times, mainly in entering and leaving cells, though I imagine any loading screen would be similar. I haven't timed any so I don't have any concrete numbers, however, they all feel like they are in excess of a minute, and definitely break the flow of things. Unlike other reviews, I've been lucky to have a relatively crash free experience, and if I did end up CTD, I didn't have any issues after loading back in, however, it has crashed more than my main FO4 save through steam, loaded up with 300+ mods. Quest writing may be an issue, so far I've only ran with the vagabonds, but the first real main quest with them was essentially "hey, I need you to do a, b may be able help", and b says "hey, I'll help with a, but I need your help with c" etc, that got somewhat annoying. All this being said, if the FOLON team can improve the issues with load times and crashes, there is a lot of potential here for some of the greatest Fallout content so far, but it just needs a bit longer in the oven to get there.
