Transport Fever

Train Fever 2

There are good and bad points, but overall I feel money well spent (and money not going to the evil Valve Corp.) So, it is basically a more complete version of Train Fever, the annoying lack of track laying and bridge building options have been fixed, you can really create some insanely complex line layouts.. level-crossing on a bridge? no problem! With the addition of more cargo types and multiple needs of each city, the end-game lasts much longer and you want to make each city thrive, and that involves shipping in people, food, tools, goods etc. The more you get shipped in the better. The current version lacks cargo planes, and discontinues smaller planes at modern times, so you're left with 3 jumbo jets and no small, short-run passenger planes. Ships are another addition, but I really don't see the point. You might make a bit of money early game, but mid-to-late game, it makes way more sense to stick a huge freight train on to do the job. With planes seeming not quite complete too, you're back to Trains, Lorries, buses and trams. All of which have a place in the game. Lorries are great for taking goods/tools/food etc into the middle of the city, rather than ploughing a railway through it, trams are profitable if you have a big city and buses are useful as feeder lines from the suburbs, leaving trains to do the long/bulky hauls across the map. The first-person camera is an awesome addition, again needs work; the near-clip is off so you see through many game objects which ruins the effect. So you're kind of left with a copy of "Train Fever" that has most of the lack of features in place from day one, but it still needs more work and bug fixes. If they abandon development of this game before fixing these issues and focus on "Transport Fever 2", then I shall be quite annoyed. I'm rating it 4 stars as I don't feel I've wasted money. Many hours of entertainment already, and I've still got plenty of play left in it, especially thanks to the modding community!
