Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two

Finally! Instant purchase for CRPG fans!

It's very rare I buy a game without putting it in my cart and thinking about whether I'll really play it or not. When I got the email from GOG this morning, I recognized the cover art from Curse of the Azure Bonds and realized the Gold Box games had finally been released! I couldn't punch my credit card details in fast enough. Six of the games are classics and you probably want to play them in this order: Pool of Radiance series: 1) Pool of Radiance 2) Curse of the Azure Bonds 3) Secret of the Silver Blades 4) Pools of Darkness Savage Frontier: 1) Gateway to the Savage Frontier 2) Treasures of the Savage Frontier Hillsfar isn't a gold box game and is a bit different from the others. It ties into the Pool of Radiance series, but there are a lot of action elements in it. This one is probably the odd man out. The other games are still very enjoyable to play. Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures is an RPG construction kit which will allow you to make your own AD&D CRPGs. It was was well regarded at the time and a lot of fan made games are based on it. Bottom Line: If you're a D&D fan or a CRPG fan these are still the best implementation of the AD&D rules in a PC game. The Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale games are great, but the games in this Forgotten Realms collection are pure AD&D without any pause time / action mechanics. For $9.99 this collection is a no brainer. Now if only they'd get the Dragonlance and Buck Rogers games out! Here's hoping!
