The crown jewel of the series, really. Keeps the good gameplay elements that made us fall in love with the first game and adds depth to the characters we play as. The silent protagonist as been given a voice and we can fully emerse ourselves into the minds of Emily and Corvo.
This game excels at creating an athmoesphere that ends up underutilized. The story is great. The gameplay is great. HOWEVER, the world building is exceptional and the amount of detail present in the game could be completely disregarded by players as the gameplay, in the main story line, happens in acts in a kind of "controlled" environment. For the full experience one would have to hop on the free ride mode and run free for some time, pay attention to the stuff we overlooked when we were flying through the city at 100mph. Had the game expanded a bit on the formula that worked so well for Mafia II this (true) remaster could be the crowning juel of an already beloved series.
