I was quite worried that UE will look like a shiny cartoon mess, but there is definitely some grit to it visually. The atmosphere is unique and immersive. Unfortunately some console UI and gameplay has made it into the game which cheapens the experience. The combat is not great on my system because everything registers late. I have an RTX3060 and an i7 but I struggle to play even on the lowest settings. That said I do want to come back to this game which is a wonderful thing. The low graphics are quite nostalgic to me frankly and look passable.
The game respects DnD mechanics and works somewhat reliably. I have by mistake hurt my companions and used items incorrectly. It is refreshing to have such freedom. However, a foul zombie has set up shop in my camp and there seems to be no mechanic to remove it. I have stricken the wretch with my best weapons and spells, yet it gets up every time. AS IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH the fiend offers snarky compliments such as 'well struck', mocking my every attempt. I have banished the ghoul back to its foul dimension using rare magical scrolls, and for a few precious moments had peace. Yet, the monstrosity returned almost immediately. All my attempts have been in vain. I wake up screaming every morning and the fiend just stands there immobile with a grin. I WILL NOT TOLERATE immortal abominations in my camp. 3 stars.
