Feeling conflicted

As a fan of classic Lucasarts adventure games I expected to find a flawed but entertaining game. Unfortunately the entertaining part wasn't really there for me. I think the writing could have benefitted from someone acting as an editor and pruning out the ideas and jokes that don't work. There are some ideas that work and even made me laugh out loud but they are overwhelmed by the constant barrage of clumsy and unfunny humor. Keep in mind that I have just scratched the surface and for a real review I would have to play more. Unfortunately, the quality of writing is just turning me off and playing became a chore instead of entertainment. The concept is promising, the graphics work very well for what the game tries to do and the adventure game mechanics do their job. The option to choose how much you want the game to hold your hand and give hints is something every adventure game could benefit from; I can't say anything about the difficulty level or the general quality of the puzzles with how little I played. I think there is a good or at least a decent game there somewhere but it is buried under too many ideas that just don't work for me. Humor is subjective, though, so the writing might just not be my cup of tea. If shameless appealing to the nostalgy factor and references to the classics of the genre are more entertaining for you than for me you will probably enjoy the game more than I. As a reference point I could mention that I also find the TV series Stranger Things OK but overrated because these things don't really do much for me. My subjective experience has been more of a one star one but I feel it is an unfair evaluation from a more objective perspective. That's why the three stars and keep in mind that this is more of a first impression than a real review.
