Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Loved it.

Felt like playing tabletop DnD. The implemented ruleset(5) was done well with a clean interface and little in the way of screen clutter. Fights were balanced well with battlefield terrain, damage typing, and general approach to possible fight areas being important considerations on my playthrough. The magic items merchant system was cleverly designed, anyone selling magical stuff in town has to be unlocked by trading in faction relics(found throughout dungeon areas in the story). Most relics are desired by multiple factions so it leads to juggling what a party might need more, access to that elven cloak of stealthy goodness, or maybe that sword of extra lightning damage instead... The campaign itself was a blast with many different flavors of encounter challenges to experience. The pacing was great too, except for a couple later areas my party was uniquely unsuited to(Some enemies are immune to some damage types...) Skills are all pretty useful(some aren't used in the campaign and the char creator notes which), even having multiple characters with decent numbers in the same skill(such as persuasion) can be nice. The characters used in the campaign are all player created(no playing someone else's idea of what a wizard should look like, fine in its place, I liked the more personal feeling that creating the entire party from scratch gave-they felt like MY party). Dwarf, Human, Half Elf, Elf, Halfling, Cleric, Paladin, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Wizard are all unlocked, and the main campaign goes to lv9 or 10. Additional races and classes can be obtained(and then used in the main campaign) via expansion packs. Creating a character is done in the main menu. When starting a campaign the process is to just pick four already built player created and/or pre-built characters. All in all I haven't had this much fun playing a dnd type game in a while, already I'm thinking about the next playthrough. Loved it.
