GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

From Beta to Worse?

I'd never played a card game properly outside of playing poker with my friends. I had heard of Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone but I never saw any sort of appeal to them or these types of games. I generally preferred FPS/MOBA's and what not. Along comes Gwent, it was gifted by a friend during the Beta phase a few years back. Gwent's aesthetics did appeal to me more so, but it was still just a card game. It sat there looking at me for a while and in the end I just thought what the hell and dove straight in. So after a few frustrated days/nights of learning and watching my deck disappear while theirs accumulated points and buffs. I finally managed to win a match and god it felt good. I ended up climbing the ranks to around 4k before I just stopped playing altogether because of all the balance changes. 2 years later I remembered I enjoyed this game. Came back and its now down to 2 rows instead of 3, you can only play 2 bronze cards instead of whatever you could squeeze into your deck and many other new card mechanics thrown into the mix. I relearnt the meta and how to build a new deck and yep, its the same game just more refined. I'm still not great at it but really enjoying it all the same. Especically the deck building. Highly recomended to anyone who likes skill based tactics with a hint of RNG just to keep it fresh each time. (Not sure why it's free and only on gog. They could sell it for $5 on steam and make a killing from it, even with steam taking 40% or whatever it is they take now.)
