IMHO, this is one of the best of the early Sid Meyer Games (like Civilization 2). Choices of which faction you play, Research Path, City Buildings and Improvements, and type of units (military or territory improving), even your diplomatic reaction to the other factions (AI Players), make every game different (and fun to play). Very absorbing! The graphics are really crude compared to the newer Sid Meyer Games, but that's part of the charm of this Oldie game. I LIKE IT!!
One of the BEST in the ANNO Series! I downgraded my rating to four stars because the Gold Edition also has the Anno 1404 Venice game included. The user has no way to choose the Venice game. The user must find the .exe icon for Venice, and "send to Desktop as shortcut". Then it will run the Venice game, but bypasses "GOG Galaxy", so no credits/stats are saved. An annoying inconvenience, hence the four star rating.
Story and encounters get more and more difficult to master as the game progresses - as it should! Thank all the gods for reload - if one method fails, try something different, and SAVE OFTEN!
