The greatest CRPG ever produced. Period. You would think that after all these years there would be another game to rival Baldur's Gate II in depth, artistic vision, and pure gameplay but none come even close. Even Dragon Age, Bioware's self proclaimed "spiritual successor", failed to best this beast of an RPG. Dragon Age was definitely not only a step in the right direction for Bioware in returning to it's classic fantasy based PC RPG model but also one of the best RPGs released in the last 5 years but it still didn't have the "magic" that BG2 had. Maybe it had something to do with the times - BG2 was to me the first PC RPG that had a really tight and expansive story with a well developed cast of characters which was more prevalent in Japanese or console RPGs, AND had very challenging gameplay, an excellent soundtrack, and an amazingly epic quest. Planescape may have had better story and dialogue; Icewind Dale was a tactical RPGer's dream come true; Morrowind and Fallout may have had more intriguing game worlds; But only Baldur's Gate II put it all together in a way that hasn't been surpassed since.
