It's because of this mod that the Stalker Community has experienced massive growth. More so than Misery or Call of Chernobyl, Anomaly was a touchstone that paved the way for incredible projects such as GAMMA, Escape from Pripyat, Custom Anomaly, and HayZee's Anomaly Community Remaster (H.A.C.R.) all of which are an incredible labors of love. I warn you, this mod changed my life. I hope it has just as positive of an impact on yours.
I can't thank this guy enough for all the time and effort he has put into this game. It started out with him trying to find an action RPG with guns. There were none. Instead of complaining about how the ARPG genre is dominated by elves, dwarves, orcs and diablos he did something that as far as I know no man has done before. He created an Action RPG with guns!!! I grew up watching Lord of the Rings, Playing D&D with friends, and played a ton of Diablo 2 with my girlfriend who became my wife. Guess what, I'm tired of fantasy and I love Stalker. God Bless you man! You're one of my favorite people in the world.
This game does not deserve a 3.4/5 rating. It borrows elements from Darkwood, Subnautica, Stalker, and Metro 2033, and I think they did a fine job. My only problems with the game is it is way too talky (diaglogue diarrhea is the curse of all modern video games, now) and using herbs and mushrooms to craft gun parts and body armor is just plain silly. It's more polished than a lot of Eurojank games I've played, and the Russian language with English subtitles is an amazing feature. Voice acting is always better in a foreign language, haha (gotta love those Tarkovsky films). Anyway, gun customization is an awesome feature, and I highly recommend getting the thermal vision for your rifle as fast as possible, because the enemy is extremely camouflaged, which only makes since in an overgrown suburban ghost town. It's not Stalker, but I like it way more than Metro 2033 (the game, not the book which is actually good). The timed missions are no different from the AtmosFear mods from the Stalker community (instead of radiation storms you have to find shelter and hide from the Nemesis.) Finding Stalker comrades and making a comfortable base for them to live in is reminiscent of the Sims with a very small tinge of X-com:EU on the side for mission assignments. AMD FSR mode is definitely a plus, as it greatly improved my performance. Menu navigation is terrible, but you get use to it over time. Base building is console friendly which means its like No Man's Sky awful navigation system. Would have been nice to have a mincraft menu layout instead, or a Stalker click and drag system. Mouse and Keyboard must be passe to developers now days. But yes, this game is a ton of fun and I really, really enjoy it once you tune out the endless dialogue, switch the voice acting to Russian, and learn how to menu navigate. 5/5 for fun factor, because this game does rock!
10 hours in and I started to forget this was a Terminator game. Plays and feels like like a cheap and condensed Fallout 3. Very little references to John Connor, and every character in the game is an new face, so there is no emotional attachment to any of them. I did find a doctor's note that contained Sarah Connor's diagnosis from T2, and the Big Boy restaurant statue from T1. But compared to other movie licensed games like The Thing and Scarface: The World is Yours the fan service in this game is pretty weak.* *Note: the playable Terminator in the game's extra content is not modeled after Schwarzenegger, it's some generic dude with half his face gone.
Playerprofile.dat file is the only way Talos Principle saves your progress. So if you are not connected to the internet with GOG Galaxy, then you will not be able to get very far in this game, because I had to keep downloading my backup saves from Galaxy to pick up where I left off. There's a new trend in the indie market lately of doing away with manual saving and F5/F9 hotkeys. STOP IT! Nobody has made a truly bug free game, so who are you to think your game is so "perfect" that autosaving is sufficient. It's not! And this is a perfect example of why.
If you have a problem then look LightBulb Crew up on Discord! This game is truly amazing and they're doing their upmost to make it even better by listening to the community around it! GOG.com just received the most recent Othercide patch today. I'm so glad a game like this exists! It's so good!
The Shenmue series is super meaningful to me and my wife as it got us through some extremely dark times in our life. When your faced with the possibliltiy of losing a loved one the last thing you want to play is a survival horror game or FPS. We needed something peaceful in our lives to get our minds off of ourselves and our problems. Shemue was that perfect distraction. Others will hate this game, becasue it's Shenmue. But for me there is a kind of gentle humor to the way Yu Suzuki created these characters. I would gladly choose the Shemue games over other gentle games like Journey, Flower, or Abzu, because they just don't present the same little quirks that give Ryo and his associates such personality. People like Ben Yatzhee Croshaw (and other reviewers who bash this game) can't appreciate something like this, because they have entitlement issues as well as they've most likely never truely come face-to-face with mortality. I've been a gamer since I was a little boy, and eventhough there are better games out there (like the Yakuza series) they don't provide the same gentle and quirk personality of the Shenmue series. Everything today is so "in your face." It's all about seeking the latest thrill or the highest high. You will not get that from the Shenmue series. In fact, if that is what you are after then stay far away from Shenmue. But if you want to play a game that is gentle and you enjoy subtle and most likely unintentional humor. Then I do recommend the Shenmue games. P.S. Thankfully my wife is doing much better healthwise and we still are enjoying the Shenmue games P.S.S. "Do you know where I can find... any other... Chinese people?"-Ryo at the Chinese Restaraunt. :)
...a Fallout game. I started playing this game with Expedition installed, so I can't speak for the vanilla version of this game. I love that there is no voice acting! (looking at you Wasteland 3 and your Borderlands humor) I love that the game forces min-max your character! (your decisions actually matter unlike Plague Tale) I love that this game doesn't have elves, orcs, or ogres! (I hate you Shadowrun for ruining cyberpunk) I love the music in this game (Junkyard theme is so good! South Gate Station could've been better) I love the combat! (It's actually better than Fallout and way better than Planescape's) I love the dialogue! (It's no Planescape: Torment, but better than your last Wednesday's D&D session) I love the difficulty (It's like a dungeon master whose obsessed with killing you) I love that the maps don't look like a blank Starcraft map editor (Honestly, Arcanum did you even try?) Between the metro, harvesting mushrooms, pig farms, STALKERs, mutants, rival factions, the only thing this game is missing is Russian names and places to be a true Metro cRPG. Sure, it looks like Fallout, but it has way more in common with Metro 2033 (the book, not the game). Buy it!
