The Last Door: Collector's Edition

I am a bit disappointed

While I was looking forward to play this game - I dig Lovecraftian themes, cosmic horror etc. - when I finally launched it, there was a big "meh" to it. The first episode was the most atmospheric, but quickly made me realize that apart of the setting, there is not much. I wasn't neither scared nor intrigued, the plot promised a lot for me but at the end of the season one, I am still a bit unsure about what was it actually about. No puzzle took longer than 5 minutes to figure out, most of them are very obvious, the rest requires a minor thought to resolve them. I wrote a lot of bad things, but: the graphics are very good, of course it's pixelated, but it's a top-notch pixel art. The music is gorgeous and adds to the mood. Characters are quite well-written and not cliche, that's a good thing - the story, while it did not captivate me, could be a lot worse. Overall, I suggest to pick the The Last Door if you want only to focus on a story and get immersed in good graphics and music. If you want a great point-and-click game, with intriguing puzzles, dialogue lines, then you might want to look elsewhere.

Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse

Brilliant

Having finished all previous Broken Sword games I must say the 5th game in series is worth the money. It holds many easter eggs for players that have played BS1 & 2. The story is as light-hearted as we got used to by the series, and it's well-written playing with conspiracy theories just right. The humour - I personally like it (may be a little bit silly for some). The backgrounds are great. The characters rendering - I would prefer everything in 2d, but it keeps up with the rest of graphics. Music and dubbing - on spot. If you haven't played the previous games in series, you'll want to, just to hear Nico's French accent ;) To sum up, I strongly recommend it - just buy and play, especially if you are not a hardcore adventure games player - the whole BS series is more casual than the rest of old-school point and click games. Beware - you can still get stuck when not saving frequently!
