This is a bad gwent game, a bad witcher game and a bad standalone game. The only reason to play this is for goodies in the standalone gwent card game and even then its too much of a time/money investment to really pay off at full price. Meh: - slow, somewhat uninteresting story (am in chapter 3 - like 15 hours in and the story can be summoned up with: kingdom got screwed - find help for kingdom) - The "decisions" you can make in the story are not decisions. You basically just pick whatever is most likely to give you an achievement so you get free stuff for the standalone gwent card game. Some are just stupid (e.g. you want to convince the dwarves to give you their army. Some random dwarf chick comes along and goes - hey btw could you steal this old history book from the archives so i can convince my dad to let me make out with a dwarf that lives with humans? - ehh NO? how about no! Im kind of trying to do something here to win over the dwarf faction? Maybe not steal from their library and piss off their leaders? okay thanks bb - ended up with a bug that made me lose a story mandatory fight even though i fulfilled the conditions. (Conditions "Kill the dragon" - i killed the dragon with 3 cards left in hand --> defeat). Didnt bother to try again but if thats a thing then its impossible to progress after this. - not gwent - You barely do anything related to gwent. The ruleset is largely different from actual gwent (both W3 and standalone). Most of the game is "logic puzzles" and "special conditions". If i want to do logic puzzles ill google logic puzzles ty! The logic puzzles are not particularly fun or interesting. Mostly just simple math problems. The problem with the "special conditions" scenarios is that the game doesnt tell you what you have to do beforehand AND YOU CANT REARRANGE YOUR DECK WITHOUT QUITTING THE GAME AFTER THE GAME TELLS YOU THE SCENARIO CONDITIONS! ScenarioExamples: Kill 1 unit - Kill all units of type - Help unit stay alive - Win 3 rounds
The story is good but everything else falls flat due to the extremely clunky control scheme and absurd amount of bugs. The game has large areas with nothing in them (slightly less awful than the first one but still..). Prepare to spend a lot of time walking. Horrible AI and only 3 barebone AI "types". To name a few: - A LOT of scenes have no sound at all - A minigame is unplayable because the jump button simply doesnt work at all (even after rebinding it multiple times) - Characters get stuck ALL THE TIME - 1 time my droid getting stuck trying to unlock a container crashed the game - Found an exploit for unlimited influence with one of the companions. Conversation can simply be repeated over and over. - Got enemies stuck several times in a way where i could shoot them down with a blaster while they were staring at me (literally inside the area they were supposed to be in. Didnt run - just shot them from a distance and they immediately got stuck)
A clusterfuck of game mechanics. Camera cant be turned. At one point i wanted to walk behind a guy and melee him but his body model was so big it was impossible to select the square i wanted to move to no matter how much i tried. Large miss chances. All the time. Melee attacks are at like 75% to hit. FUCKING MELEE ATTACKS. Ranged is better in every imaginable way. Flanking and line of sight make no sense. I have played all XCOM games and a ridiculous number of rpgs but half the time i dont have line of sight when i clearly should have and the other half i dont get flanking attacks when im clearly flanking people while the AI has perfect game sense and gets flanking attacks while being in cover in front of me. WAT? Decking is an annoying tacked on mechanic. Speech checks are ridiculously specific.
