Imperator: Rome

No Stars for this game

Well this game could have been good but all the game design decisions right from the start were wrong. In addition over time the game got worse and worse: Especially the decision to make levies and only be able to raise legions based on your map size makes it impossible to play tiny nations. You could freely build armies until they made that terrible 2.0 version of the game which destoyed the whole game. In addition the game is riddled with micro management which doesnt add anything to the game but just to feel like a factory worker doing the same chore over and over again: Like moving slaves all the time until the next pop gets demoted to a slave. Or micromanaging the governors. The change the district policy every time you get a new one. Of course a governor doest govern a whole region like spain. NO spain has 5 governors. They split whole regions into smaller regions and every smaller region has its own governor which sets policies for districts which are even smaller. It was fun at release at version 1 or at version 1.5 but with version 2 they made the UI totally unintuitive and made the fun part of the game: conquering other nations just absurdly horrible by only having levies in the beginning and if you have professional troops you can only made a few in every region you have and then have to manually join them. Its ridiculous! Again: who ever made these game design decisions should be barred from making games for the rest of their lives.
