I was looking forward to this but I can't really play it. It looks cute, if simplistic, but the controls are very delayed. That could be something I could learn to live with but the game also stutters. Originally it dropped frames any time I used the bark but after fiddling with the graphics settings it wouldn't do that but would regularly stutter during normal play. That was too much. I've seen the same complaints on elsewhere, so it's not because I was running it through WINE.
This "game" has a few things going for it. It is undeniably pretty, the voice acting is good and the music is amazing. It delivers a wonderful, calming and dream-like experience. However there are also several flaws. The appearance is superficial. There is little to no interaction between the player and the environment and even cursory look shows that the environments are built through copy pasting assets (particularly noticeable with trees). The narrative has a weak link to the visuals and doesn't always feel connected. Considering how little happens in the game, I would've expected the few things that do happen to be done better. It's short, I don't see any replay value and there's no real gameplay beyond running through the environment. Essentially you will get great music, pretty visuals and an audio novel. Probably only worth it if you can get it on discount.
Ghost of a Tale has a charming story, likeable characters and occurs in a beautiful world. However a lack of voice acting hinders immersion, the core gameplay is repetitive and devoid of challenge and the game is plagued by several bugs. If you go into it for the stealth gameplay you will probably be dissapointed. If you go into it for the characters and aesthetic then you will be pleased. A lot of potential but falls down when it comes down the execution. Full review published on Flayrah: https://www.flayrah.com/7315/review-ghost-tale
