Tea and blanket during a cold winter day

This little metroidvania game holds much more than at first meets the eye - and let me tell you, what meets the eye ain't no slouch either! The art style is charming and cute, I adore every little critter in this game and its unique look. Gameplay-wise, it seems perhaps too simplistic at first. You think that there isn't too many things to do or explore, map seems a bit barren and overall it feels more like a cute indie attempt than a full-fledged gaming experience. But oh boy does it get better. Soon enough, you find special moves that open up the other areas of the game, you backtrack and explore various shortcuts and secrets. Then, you connect your first two islands together and the maps merge seamlessly. Then, you actually upgrade your tiny little ship and the game starts to have a very good SHMUP intermezzos. Then, you find yourself caring for certain characters and plot elements. And then, at some point, you actually finish the game and realize that you've enjoyed yourself just like when you used to be a child and was able to immerse yourself into a world beyond the screen. Now, it's not too long and fairly accessible in difficulty - but in my age and attention span, I actually find this to be a positive. The game is fully worth the asking price (I bought it on Steam for slightly more, even) and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to play something warm and enjoable.
