Cyberpunk 2077

A Tough Case To Be Made

Cyberpunk 2077 is inherently a difficult game to review, but with over 200 hours played, and everything in the game cleared, I feel I can make an assesment. The most important thing I can say about this game is that despite the bugs, which are numerous, I continuously had an amazing time playing. The easiest way to judge a game is by how it looks, so I'll start there. In almost all instances, Cyberpunk 2077 is stunning. I have my settings between medium and high, RT off, and HDR on at 1440p and this game is the next step up in terms of visuals. Next, let's talk about the soundtrack. Just like the visuals, the soundtrack is nothing short of spectacular. The ambient tracks are amazing, and the radio is incredible. Nothing more to say. Gameplay is a much more difficult thing to review. At it's core, Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG looter shooter cut from the same cloth as Borderlands. The gunplay is solid, but never becomes exceptional. This is a shame because it will be the bulk of gameplay for most playstyles. However, working within the roleplaying systems set up you can easily elavate the gameplay. Hacking mechanics and stealth add great depth to nearly every engagment, and the levels and areas are layed out in a fashion that makes it clear stealth was not an after thought. You will also be doing a lot of driving. Driving is, at best, alright. Now to the story and characters. To put it simply, I believe Cyberpunk 2077 delivers. The plot is good, and acts as the solid foundation for the characters and themes that drive a compelling narrative. This level of quality and writting is evident in nearly every activity in the game, not just the main story. Some of the most compelling narrative experiences were completley optional. Everywhere you look, you are surrounded by phenominal character writting, and some of the best world building put into a game, bar none. There is no weak link in the Cyberpunk story or world, and to me, THAT is immersion. Despite the bugs 5/5
