I wish they would come back to the franchise and make a legitimate third installment. The base building is well executed. The story missions are well told and it's difficult enough without being overwhelming. Just all around a great game.
I'll start by saying I'm very biased. This game was the first game I bought myself with my own money when I was 10. The voice acting is amazing, headlined by Patrick Stewart and Brock Peters (RIP). The dialogue is excellent. The story across all three campaigns is awesome. The ships being so customizeable is the biggest plus. I've wished games like Star Trek: Legacy would have just copy/pasted the customizing options from SFC3 to the 3D space games. One of if not the best Star Trek game out there.
